Giving ideas a home
There usually are two types of ideas in my head: the ones that stay for a long time, persistent and continuous. And the ones that come, stir up my curiosity, and then go away.
The first ideas can last weeks or even months in my head. They are stubborn and demand me to ask more questions and investigate. They invite me to explore depths without much clarity of what I will find at the bottom.
These ideas are usually born from an image. A video of an automaton made me write about play as a measure of human progress. A Lucha Libre event in Mexico City made me write about wonder. A replica of the La Pinta caravel made me write about exploration and discovery. A cassette tape inspired the idea of a syllabus as a playlist.
These type of ideas have found their home in this newsletter, which has served me as a Journal of Exploration of sorts; a place to start probing the depths of the water. (Thanks for following along!)
The second type of ideas are fleeting and twinkling. They invite me to explore the surface, just to take a closer look at what I could see a bit from afar.
These ideas typically start with a question. What new formats exist for learning? What has been the impact of personal tutors like Kahnmigo? What can we learn from the success of Wordle? How can we execute a proper Choose Your Own Adventure experience in a learning context? Can you really learn through a WhatsApp course?
These ideas don’t have a home yet, but you probably noticed they do have a common denominator. That’s why I’m starting a new experiment. I’m calling it The Learning Dispatch. This will be a side project by TeamLogiQ, the company I co-founded, where on Thursdays every other week, we’ll explore a creative format from the world of learning.
As part of the experiment, The Learning Dispatch will be a short publication that explores four questions:
What’s the format?
What are the features?
Why is it effective for learning?
What’s the point?
I’ll continue writing my usual longer notes once a month, and in parallel, I’ll give a new home to these ideas.
The first edition is coming out tomorrow! If you’re interested in learning formats and interesting remixes, join me on this journey! Make sure to select that section under your account to receive emails with new posts. Use your.substack.com/account
Thank you, thank you to those who have been following along. Knowing that you’re reading on the other side of this screen keeps me curious and inspired…
